Couples Counseling

Every couple will experience difficulty at some point in their relationship. As with many things it is easy to put off addressing problems which only serves to make them worse. Couples counseling serves to strengthen the relationship, resolve conflict, and provide a catalyst to reconciliation and healing, which can result in a deeper emotional and spiritual bond.

At this time, we do not take insurance for services.  There are many reasons that we choose to refrain from accepting insurance.  Here are just a few:

  1. To bill insurance, we need to diagnose you, which is something we do not think is necessary for therapy.  Many insurance companies will not reimburse without a diagnosis.

  2. If an insurance company becomes involved, it is up to the insurance company whether or not your needs meet their requirements for reimbursement.  This also means that they can ask me to justify your need for treatment as a “medical necessity.”  Using insurance often means multiple people have access to your files, including the content of our conversations.

  3. The more people involved in your treatment, the harder it is to guarantee privacy and confidentiality.  Many institutions have been prone to breaches of information and insurance companies are no exception.  There have even been instances of individuals being denied jobs, political positions, and educational opportunities based on the information shared intentionally or accidentally by insurance companies.  Many jobs and educational opportunities require screening employees, and a diagnosis can be detrimental to the process.

  4. A diagnosis does not have a statute of limitations, so it can remain on your medical record permanently.  This can result in your being flagged with a “pre-existing condition” that could impact your application to health and life insurance in the future.

If you would like, we can give you what’s called a “superbill” that can be self-submitted to your insurance company for reimbursement.  This is an option many people exercise that is frequently accepted by HSAs, traditional insurance, and health share ministries.

Many people do not have the option to refrain from using insurance due to financial constraints.  If this is the case, please give us a call so that we can put you in touch with excellent referrals that utilize insurance.
